Defending Yourself
Against Criminal Charges

Choosing the Best Legal Defense Option

When one is arrested in and charged with a crime in places like Frisco, Texas, there are several options available for legal representation. The two options that people think of most is either hiring a lawyer or being granted a public defender who works with the court. However, both of these options do have their drawbacks which might not appeal to everyone. Because of this, some people will choose the third option: self-representation.

🔲 Hiring a Lawyer

One of the most chosen and preferred options for those who are charged with a crime is hiring a private attorney. Hiring criminal lawyers means that the client must pay for their services. The effectiveness of criminal defense lawyers will vary with their experience and success rate. A good criminal defense team will know how to disprove an overzealous prosecutor’s case against the accused and get the charges dismissed.

🔲 What About Public Defenders?

For those who cannot afford to hire a private attorney, the court will appoint a public defender to represent them during court proceedings. This is the most likely option for someone who is charged with a crime, simply due to the high expense that a private attorney comes with. However, many public defenders are overworked with multiple clients in different cases, making them unreliable and potentially a liability.

🔲 Self-Representation

The final option for those charged of a crime is to represent themselves in court. During the case, the accused must prove that there is a reasonable doubt that they did the crime. They must gather the evidence and interview witnesses on their own and prove to the court that either they did not do the crime or that they had no other option and should be exempt from the responsibility of the crime.
